This workshop will provide scientifically proven techniques for your clients who:

  • Get angry instantly, and without just cause
  • Struggle to maintain close relationships
  • Act impulsively on anger or other negative emotions
  • Explode with emotion after becoming overloaded with resentment
  • Have a history of dangerous rages or failed relationships
  • Misinterpret other people’s words and actions as criticism and aggression

For these clients, transformation is needed because anger suppression strategies DO NOT WORK, or at least, not for long. In the past, many clinicians turned to CBT techniques based on the assumption that anger is post-cognitive. However, as those who struggle with anger will tell you, in most cases, anger takes control before there is time to think. That is why emotions must be transformed using new emotional energy, rather than solely relying on cognition. Furthermore, avoidance of emotion does not lead to health or happiness. That is why strategies designed to suppress emotions only produce temporary results. They are not transformational.

This workshop will teach participants how to:

  • Use emotional growth to transform emotional dysfunction
  • Produce enduring change through increased social competence and healthy development
  • Generate positive/adaptive emotional experiences
  • Engage change-resistant clients in new productive behaviours
  • Manage complex interactions with potentially volatile clientele in an expert manner

During this one-day training, Dr. Short will equip participants with a powerful range of strategies designed to change the brains and behaviours of your most challenging clients. You will bring back to your agency valuable forms and worksheets that translate principles of change into concrete action. You will receive everything that is needed to run a successful program, from the initial treatment contract to the daily homework exercises. Using opportunities for practice and demonstrations, Dr. Short will guide you through development and implementation of these transformational tools.

With 20 plus years of transformational work with angry individuals, in a variety of settings such as prisons, domestic violence programs, school rooms, universities, and in private practice, Dr. Dan Short both understands the challenges of this work and which strategies are most effective for preventing aggressive, raging and violent behaviours. Thus, this workshop is for those who confront the problems of anger and aggression on a daily basis and who need practical tools that are quickly put into practice and highly reliable.
