This course will focus on explaining key aspects of neuroscience and stress and how to apply them to your life.  You will find it engaging, easy to understand, and grounded in scientific research. Most importantly, you will learn  practical steps you can take to better manage the stress in your life and to also help your clients manage chronic stress better.

 

You’ll learn what stress actually is from a scientific perspective. We’ll cover the two complementary parts of the autonomic nervous system.  You’ll discover how the specific things you pay attention to have a dramatic effect on your experience of stress. You’ll also learn several simple strategies for managing your stress that you can put into practice right away!  You will discover the 3 big steps you can take to increase resilience in the face of stress. You’ll learn about the brain circuits that contribute to stress, and how you can take small steps to actually change the activity and chemistry of your brain. We’ll explore the counterintuitive idea of how it can actually be good to focus on the worst-case scenario. And we’ll cover how your values actually keep your brain from being overwhelmed by stress.  You will learn strategies that can help you  increase your positive emotions and give you a whole new outlook on life. You’ll learn what to do in order to increase serotonin and to activate key emotional circuits.

The course will give you really helpful strategies to provide to your clients to better manage stress. It will also help you gain an understanding of the neuroscience of stress, which you can also pass on to your clients.

Alex Korb, PhD, is a neuroscientist, writer, and coach. He has studied the brain for over 20 years, and is the bestselling author of The Upward Spiral: Using Neuroscience to Reverse the Course of Depression, One Small Change at a Time which was translated into many languages. He earned his undergraduate degree in neuroscience at Brown University and then later completed a Ph.D. in neuroscience at UCLA. He has published over a dozen peer-reviewed journal articles on depression, neuromodulation, and other topics. He is currently an adjunct assistant professor at UCLA in the department of psychiatry and bio-behavioural sciences as well as vice-president of research and development for BrainSonix.

  

Outside of the lab he writes a popular blog on how the tendencies of your brain can ruin or enrich your life. As a speaker, he educates, motivates, and inspires organizations to understand the neuroscience of wellbeing and put it into practice. As a consultant he works with companies and organizations to help them improve communication about neuroscience and enhance employee well-being. He has coached the UCLA Women’s Ultimate Frisbee team for over 15 years, and is a 3 time award winner for USA Ultimate’s Coach of the Year. His expertise extends into leadership and motivation, mindfulness, physical fitness, and even stand-up comedy.
